Melbourne Motorcycle Tourers Story

Melbourne Motorcycle Tourers Inc (MMT) is a motorcycle riding club for LGBTIQA+ motorcyclists. We are based in Melbourne but welcome riders from all over Victoria to join us. We were formed in 1990. We are a very informal group that welcomes all motorcyclists, from beginners to expert riders.  We participate in many of Melbourne’s LGBTIQA+ events as well as organising our own dinners, meetings and social events and regular day and weekend rides.

Our members are of all ages from the 20’s to 70’s and have all sorts of bikes including on-road and off-road. The graph to the right shows the spread on bike brands amongst our members and you can see that we have bikes of almost all brands!

Over our history as a proud LGBTQIA+ motorcycle group, we’ve participated in the Melbourne Pride March, the Midsumma Carnival, the Daylesford Chillout Festival many times.

We pride ourselves on being motorcyclists first and gay second. All our members just love to ride and some have been riding for 40+ years while others are just starting out. Our rides are organised to cater for all rider skill levels and we use the rear and lead rider system, similar to that used by other motorcycle groups. So if you’re only just starting out on a bike or if you’ve been riding for many years you’ll enjoy our rides.

Our club also plans an annual ‘holiday’ ride of around 10 days, usually in February or March and in past years, we have been to many diverse destinations such as Tasmania, Flinders Ranges, Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kangaroo Island and Mount Kosciuszko.

We always welcome new members, however, we have just one rule for membership and that is that you must hold a current motorcycle licence or motorcycle learner permit to join the club.

MMT is NOW authorised by VicRoads to operate under the Club Permit Scheme for veteran, classic, historic and street road vehicles so if you’re a member, you can also access this Scheme through MMT.
