Siggi’s Dino Ride on 5 July 2025
I asked the weather gods for good weather and made sure the tide was out at the right time for this ride’s visit to the beach, and both worked out quite perfectly.
10 of us met at the Stamford Inn in Rowille at 9 for a 9:30 stands up. We made our way to Loch over winding roads through an ever changing landscape and some very rural smells. Morning tea was at the cozy Olive at Loch Café. After some nice if rather pricey food we fueled up at the Loch petrol station where a Tesla at the petrol bowser kept us amused and guessing what he was doing there. Eventually, the driver pulled out a petrol can and the mystery was solved.

We then made our way through an area called the Black Forest past Inverloch towards the Caves beach. On the way, Mark’s bike fell over in some mud on the side of the road as he stopped and rode off the tar seal to direct the following bikers around a turn, luckily both rider and bike were unharmed. At much the same time Luke’s zip burst open (it was his jacket zip, just to clarify that), and while we waited for Mark to get back on his wheels, Kate kindly sorted Luke’s jacket out. We arrived at the beach at 1 pm, perfect timing for the tide, which was nearly at its lowest point. We swarmed over the rocky beach looking for the famous dino foot prints. A couple of other people found some prints and we all gathered around and took lots of pictures. We also found a couple of interesting fish in the rockpools that eat fingers but don’t mind being poked at with a stick. The world is full of wonders.
As the Kilcunda pub’s kitchen closes at 2:30 we had to rush off and did not get to see the caves, so there is a nice reason to come back to this beach. After lunch with a great see view we made our way back north to end the ride at the Naked Racer, a famous biker watering hole and bike shop/ museum.
Thank you to all who came along for the ride, working hard so that all knew where to go and trusting me enough to follow me for about 289 km. I hope you had as much fun as I did.
Cheers, Siggi
